Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT teaches individuals to accept difficult emotions, defuse from unhelpful thoughts, and commit to value-based actions. Rather than trying to eliminate distress, ACT focuses on psychological flexibility—helping people live meaningful lives while experiencing the full range of human emotions without avoidance or resistance.
Read more about ACT here.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps clients recognize and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. It’s goal-oriented and structured, focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. By identifying cognitive distortions and replacing them with realistic thinking, individuals can manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges more effectively.

Person-centred therapy
Person-centred therapy emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine therapist-client relationships. Developed by Carl Rogers, it supports clients in exploring their experiences at their own pace. This non-directive approach empowers individuals to access their own strengths and solutions in a safe, accepting environment.
Play- and art-based counselling
Play and art-based therapies use creative expression—like drawing, painting, or storytelling—to help individuals, especially children, process emotions and experiences. These therapies bypass verbal limitations and tap into the subconscious, making them effective for trauma, anxiety, and developmental challenges through symbolic and imaginative engagement.
Play-Based Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Play-based DBT adapts DBT for children using games, stories, and creative play. It teaches emotional regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills in a child-friendly format. This approach helps young clients express feelings, build coping tools, and develop healthy relationships through interactive and developmentally appropriate methods.

Kaitlan is a Board-Certified Behaviour Consultant/Analyst (BCBA) and Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) based in Burnaby and Surrey, BC, Canada. She started her career by supporting individuals with autism, as well as other neurodiverse populations in 2011. During this time, Kaitlan completed her Master of Science degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis from St. Cloud State University. Following this, she became a Board-Certified Behaviour Consultant in 2020. She then pursued further education and completed additional course work and training in the field of mental health. Currently, Kaitlan is on the Registered Autism Service Providers (RASP) list in British Columbia and holds BCACC accreditation as an RCC.
Throughout her career, Kaitlan has worked with individuals from the ages of 12 months and above in a variety of capacities as an independent service provider. She has supervised early intensive behaviour intervention (EIBI) programs, provided school-based consultation and training, engaged in presentations for schools and non-profit organizations, conducted social skills groups for preteens, held parent coaching sessions, and provided 1-on-1 counselling sessions.
Kaitlan is passionate about providing behavioural analytic services that place an emphasis on individualized, manageable, and meaningful goals for my clients. Her approach is routed in evidence-based research alongside family-centred practice. Including the different members of the individual’s life allows Kaitlan to provide well rounded, collaborative, and meaningful goals and recommendations. Within her work as a counsellor, she provides counselling services in BC to children (from six months), women, and families.
Further Education and Training
Kaitlan has completed extensive training in evidence-based approaches to support children and families facing autism, trauma, and behavioural challenges. She has deep expertise in interventions such as EMDR, play therapy, behavioural skills training, and trauma-informed care.
Kaitlan’s recent training includes advanced techniques in early intervention for autism (JASPER model), EMDR applications for complex trauma, and innovative approaches to treating food selectivity and executive functioning. She has also received training from experts like Dr. Bessel van der Kolk on trauma healing, and Dr. Laurel Parnell on EMDR for recent trauma recovery.
With a strong foundation in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Kaitlan integrates a range of evidence-based strategies to create individualized, compassionate care for her clients.
