Behaviour Consulting
Behaviour Consulting in BC
Behaviour consultation services are provided by a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). This means that our approach is rooted in an evidence-based method of understanding and modifying behaviour: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). ABA is based on the principle that behaviour is learned over time and maintained by the environment. By identifying the “why” behind behaviours, we tailor strategies to meet your family’s unique needs and goals.
What does Applied Behaviour Analysis look like?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an individualized, data-driven approach that helps us understand and modify behaviours. Consequently, we break down complex skills into smaller, manageable goals and use positive reinforcement to encourage progress. Decisions are based on objective data collected throughout the process to ensure that treatment remains effective and appropriate. Thus, ABA is flexible! We adjust strategies as your child’s needs evolve, all while adhering to ethical standards set by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board.
Assessment
The consultation process begins with an initial assessment, where we gather information about your family’s unique needs, values, and goals. During this phase, we observe behaviours, identify triggers, strength and skill deficits and collect data to create a tailored support plan. This assessment is key to understanding your child’s current developmental level and challenges.
Throughout the service, we conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. These regular check-ins ensure that we are always focused on the most relevant goals and continue to support your family best.
Areas of Focus
Our Behaviour Consultation services can address a wide range of concerns, including:
- Co-operation: Promoting cooperation and flexibility with instructions and family routines.
- Daily Living Skills: Supporting independence with activities like dressing, feeding, and grooming.
- Feeding Challenges: Helping children overcome difficulties with eating and food aversions.
- Mental Health : Reducing anxiety/fear-based responses and promoting engagement.
- Play Skills: Teaching appropriate independent and peer play skills.
- School-Based Challenges: Addressing concerns in the school setting, including school refusal, academic challenges and difficulty focusing.

- Social Skills: Teaching appropriate social interactions with peers and adults.
- Tantrums and Aggression: Managing outbursts and developing alternative behaviours.
As your BCBA, I will develop, supervise, and adjust your child’s treatment plan. In order to do this, I work collaboratively with you and your child’s support team (e.g., school staff, preschool, therapists, other clinicians) to ensure that strategies are effective and consistent across settings. I provide ongoing assessments, modify goals as needed, and offer support and training to caregivers and staff members.

Parent Involvement
Parents are an integral part of the process. Your active participation is essential for the success of the program. Therefore, you will be involved in setting goals, tracking progress, and providing feedback. We will schedule regular parent coaching sessions to ensure you feel confident in implementing these strategies. Collaboration and communication with the family are vital for creating a positive, lasting impact.
