Developmental Support at Willow and Sage Counselling

Early Developmental Support

At Willow and Sage Counselling, we provide early developmental support for infants and toddlers, offering families guidance during one of the most crucial stages of a child’s growth. Free developmental screening is offered for infants and toddlers aged 6 to 24 months. These services are designed for families who may have concerns about developmental delays, are navigating the early stages of a potential diagnosis, or simply want to support their child’s development with expert guidance.

Early communication development is a critical aspect of this service. Gestures play a fundamental role in how young children express their needs and interests before they develop verbal language. Developing a rich repertoire of gestures is closely linked to overall cognitive growth and can act as an early indicator of healthy communication. Early support can help identify potential delays that may impact future learning and social interactions.

Developmental Check-Ins

Our developmental check-ins focus on identifying early signs of developmental differences and equipping parents with strategies to foster learning, communication, and social engagement. Through play-based, relationship-centred approaches, we help build foundational skills that support lifelong development.

Parents are provided with practical tools to nurture early communication milestones, such as:

  • Creating a rich language environment by speaking to the child frequently;
  • Encouraging social interactions and responding to gestures; and,
  • Engaging in joint attention by focusing on the same object and discussing it.
